Big Band Jazz & Swing
We have two jazz/swing bands (we call them RED and BLUE), which play a wide range of music from Count Basie to Michael Buble to Buddy Rich. 16 musicians and a vocalist play at performances.
The Red Band rehearses on Thursday mornings. The Blue Band rehearses Friday mornings.
To the extent practicable, the bands choose tunes from their extensive playlists that are suitable for each particular event, such as Valentines Day, Mardi Gras, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Christmas. The programs can run from 45 min to a couple hours, depending upon the band and the event.
Our virtuosity is comparable to commercial bands. Most of our players played in college bands or armed services bands. Many majored or minored in music. Now that we’re seniors, we play for the fun of it, both for ourselves and your audience.
