In Memoriam – Tony Itzie

Tony Itzie

J. C. Campbell:

I received a sad call from Betty Itzie this afternoon to tell me that our friend and fellow musician, Tony Itzie, passed away yesterday, Saturday, September 10.  Those who are in our Reflections band or the New Horizons programs will know that Tony had been fighting cancer since he joined the bands, about 5 years by my memory.  We watched him go through repeated bouts of chemo and other treatments and always bounce back in good humor and anxious to play.   He will be greatly missed and our prayers and sympathy go out to Betty and their family.

Details are incomplete but I did understand from Betty that Tony’s body will be cremated and that there will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 24th.  The time is still to be determined but it will be at the Southcare Memorial Chapel, 2260 Old Milton Parkway, Alpharetta, GA, 30009.  When I receive more information I will pass it on.

By copy to Sandy Laszio and Jimmy St.John, they are requested to transmit this information to all the New Horizons members and consider any other tribute that is appropriate.

Thanks, J. C.

Sandy LASLO:

Those of us who knew Tony are saddened by news of his passing and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family. I often sat next to Tony in the Clarinet section and enjoyed his outstanding musical ability and his dry wit. Attached is a picture of Tony that was taken a couple of years ago when we played at the Roswell Square.

John Lauer: I, too sat next to Tony in the Red Band….he played an outstanding tenor sax, and he will be greatly missed.
